Fort Myers Beach, a town on the 6-mile long Estero island permits dogs (and possibly other pets?) on the beach as long as they are leashed. Unfortunately many beaches in SWFL are not dog friendly due to county or city regulations, but this one is!
There are a handful of beach front restaurants and some do allow pets, so you can wander along the beach getting food and drinks for yourself and your dog. Near the parking lot is a small outdoor area with shops and more restaurants, called Time Square which has a large clock so it is easy to identify.
The water is shallow and has a very gradual entry so it is very easy to play in and the beach sand is soft. Watch out for sting rays from May to October. I have witnessed a friend’s dog being stung and had to have the barb removed surgically. It can happen to you and your pet alike.
Please be respectful of others who may not like dogs as this beach can get very crowded especially toward the main town area. Please also obey the leash law and clean up after your pet to keep this beach dog friendly for everyone else!
